The Sue Family

Sharing the gospel to Japan using our gifts in the creative arts started in 2010 when we took our first short-term missions trip to Japan. In the years that followed, we were blessed to return three more times, including serving a year in Tohoku to minister to those affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake.

During our time in Tohoku, God allowed us to implement a mobile emotional care program called The Butterfly Project. It brought creative art activities combined with the gospel to survivors staying at temporary housing located in the tsunami-hit areas. Burton held workshops in drawing and painting and Kathryn taught gospel hula and English classes to bring positive distractions from the daily stress and anxieties survivors were experiencing.

We are being called to return to Japan to serve long-term. We will partner with local churches to continue using the ministry of The Butterfly Project to continue making a difference for a nation that is struggling with many dark social issues.

  • On average, there is a suicide every 15 minutes

  • Over a million people isolate themselves and never venture out into society

  • 40% of the population will be over 65 by 2060

  • Seniors are committing petty crimes to be put in jail because they are lonely

  • Over 55% of children to single-parent homes live in poverty

Japan is a beautiful nation.  But it needs to know Jesus.  Less than 1% of the population is Christian and it is the 2nd largest unreached people group in the world.  Will you partner with us to reach Japan for Jesus?
